Uranus
Each planet represents an archetypal and fundamental energy that expresses a method, a set of key principles that are central to each planetary archetype.
Uranus is the first Trans-Saturnian planet and (along with Saturn) is the ruler of Aquarius and the realm of the Eleventh House.
Uranus was first discovered in 1781 by Herschel and is often associated with revolution and change, not least because less than a decade after its discovery the French Revolution occurred. It represents the drive to be unique, to shock and to surprise and ushers in sudden and unpredictable events. Part of its influence is to raise personal consciousness. It is lightning-fast in its effect and linked with electricity and all forms of technology that advance humanity such as computers, aviation and space exploration. Uranus tends to also be associated with sexual excess and freedom from restriction.
As Uranus takes 84 years to go around the Sun, it will be in any one sign for 7 years - therefore its effect is on a collective (and community) level, influencing successive generations. Its Sign position shows in what psychological area of humanity revolutionary changes will take place.
The House Uranus is in will show in which specific area of your life revolutionary changes take place. It shows where you are most original, and where sudden developments will raise your consciousness.
In mythology Uranus the god of the heavens and was both the son and the husband of Gaia, the goddess of the Earth. From their incestuous union all living things were born. Saturn led a rebellion against Uranus and his was castrated. From his severed genitals Aphrodite was born.
The aspects Uranus makes show in what part of your personality you have the greatest need to break free and act in the most unique and individual way. These aspects indicate rather extreme character traits where you may wish to shock others, or inspire them to change.
In Karmic astrology Uranus tends to be regarded as the catalytic planet of chaos and change. It acts as the karmic awakener, propelling us out of the rut we find ourselves in and propelling us towards realising our true soul purpose.
When well aspected Uranus encourages originality, inventiveness to the point of brilliance, versatility, independence, friendliness, occultism and unconventionality.
If badly aspected then eccentricity, perversion, rebellion delusion and wilfulness can often occur.
