The four solar eclipses of 2011 give the year a decidedly political feel where change is the order of the day. With Pluto still in Capricorn in 2011 the process of tearing down established systems that have lost their effectiveness and replacing them with fairer and more efficient systems with stronger foundations continues on from 2011. Capricorn invariably suggests both diligence and hard work; however the aims and objectives of this period of change are fully realisable provided that patience is exercised. With Saturn, Capricorn's ruler, transiting Libra, difficult relations between governments and its people may need to be worked through as part of this process. Uranus squares up to Pluto in 2011 creating a certain amount of conflict as the conflicting themes of hope versus fear; transparency versus secrecy; innovation versus limitation strive to find a means of expression.

With Jupiter in Aries for the first half of the year energy and imitative are high, whereas in the second half of the year when Jupiter moves into Taurus people begin to consolidate their gains made during Jupiter's transit of Aries. Seismic activity which has been linked to both solar eclipses and more recently the opposition between Saturn and Uranus is likely to be higher than usual throughout 2011.

February 2011

February sees Jupiter continue its transit through Aries, denoting a pioneering spirit, coupled with new beginnings. People have the power to achieve successes in new enterprises although there can be a tendency towards blind optimism, impulsive action and an exaggerated sense of self-importance. Although separating, the affects of Jupiter's conjunction with revolutionary Uranus is still being felt heralding innovative developments in areas such as science and finance. Perhaps more significant is Jupiter's square to Pluto in Capricorn which will push people to follow their goals with a renewed intensity. The danger with Pluto in Capricorn is that old systems that no longer serve their purpose can be violently torn down before being replaced with something more constructive. This aspect also brings issues of power and leadership to the fore, when married with the Uranus influence we may find that countries that operate repressive regimes find the people clamouring for reform.

March 2011

March sees Saturn in Libra moving into opposition against Jupiter indicating a time of significant social and political change. In general, life alternates between periods of optimism and pessimism and periods of financial abundance and financial hardship. It can sometimes seem that everything good that happens comes at a cost during this time. Saturn also forms an ongoing and applying Square with Pluto, emphasising the need to build strong foundations; success comes as a result of thorough preparation. The penetrative Pluto energy is likely to expose secrets that conservative and authoritarian Saturn would prefer to remain hidden. Mercury turns retrograde March 30 at 24 degrees Aries, retrogrades in fire signs tend to inspires us to apply the passionate energy, enthusiasm, initiative, creative spark to all of our activities, expect a few of the inevitable mercury retrograde delays and frustrations during the actual retrograde period but use that time to plan to begin new projects as soon as Mercury goes direct on April 23rd.

April 2011

Neptune moves into Pisces this month, enabling the people of the world to start to manifest their vision of a better future. Spiritual renewal is highlighted further by a sextile between Neptune and Pluto. This may involve the questioning of orthodox religious opinions and find more people seeking their own spiritual experiences. Drugs may be a particular issue at this time. Mercury going direct (see above) enables new ways of thinking to find real substance.

May 2011

May starts with a conjunction between Mars and Jupiter in Aries on the 1st. This is the ultimate aspect for decisive action, initiative in war and success in any physical activity. Uranus also moves into Aries on the 27th inspiring many to make actions which they would not have otherwise taken. Saturn's opposition to its nemesis, Uranus and square to Pluto continues to set an authoritarian yet reformist agenda that re-evaluates the foundations of government and law and order; expect heated exchanges between the reformists and the old guard at this time, while a sextile between Jupiter and Neptune promotes imagination and inspiration. Motivation is high this month, thanks in part to a trine between Mars and Pluto however there remains a slight danger that this motivation can itself act as a catalyst for more explosive exchanges.

June 2011

Jupiter moves from Aries into the Earth sign of Taurus on June 4th so expect a shift to a more fixed perspective on global relations. There is a solar eclipse on the 1st at 11 degrees Gemini which occurs in the Northern latitudes. This eclipse is trine Saturn which suggests sudden change on serious issues and strained or difficult communications. The effect of eclipses are usually felt several weeks either side of the actual eclipse date. June promises to be an interesting month all-round, with Saturn in Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn which in turn squares Uranus in Aries which completes the cardinal grand cross by squaring Mercury in Cancer. Change this month will be frustrating, difficult and erratic as people are forced to either stand their ground and defend their ideologies or accept changes that will have far reaching implications. Neptune turning retrograde on June 3rd reinforces any stagnation of spiritual beliefs.

July 2011

The third 2011 solar eclipse will occur in Cancer on 1st July, 2011 and will be seen in the Indian Ocean. This will be the first solar eclipse of 'Saros cycle 156'; an eclipse cycle with approximately, 6585.32 days (18 years 11 ? days). Issues concerning property and the housing markets may come to the fore at this time as an attempt is made to sweep away old attitudes towards property and establish a new approach. Jupiter trine Pluto gives a positive vibe to this situation however Uranus turns retrograde on the 9th July until mid December, suggesting that this is a time to stick with tested concepts and methods rather than trying anything too radical.

August 2011

Mercury spends most of August in retrograde, turning retrograde on August 3 at 1 Virgo before going direct again on August 26 at 18 Leo. This is a time when too much haste can cause important details to be overlooked and health and vitality may be problematic, however once Mercury goes direct in the Fire sign of Leo, creativity and impetus will be given free reign. Mars opposite Pluto on the 11th is likely to highlight ruthless power struggles, repression and violence in some areas of the world.

September 2011

Pluto stations direct on September 16th and is square retrograde Uranus. Uranus square Pluto will be the major astrological influence from now into 2015, with seven exact aspects. During this lengthy aspect we can expect transformation, social change and revolution, some of which may be rather destructive and violent. Sometimes we will be confronted with situations that are so intense that only taking sudden or drastic measures will do. The accepted standards of society will be challenged as people resist conforming to others' values if they compromise their own. Mars Trine Uranus gives an adventurous and fearless energy, which dares to try out new and different things in life and enables people to respond well to challenging situations.

October 2011

Jupiter is retrograde throughout October and November hence a second Jupiter trine Pluto aspect on October 28th, may not be quite as positive as the previous trine back in July, as this time the Sun is opposite Jupiter suggesting over optimism and extravagance catching up with us. Generally speaking Jupiter's retrograde cycles promote the rethinking of philosophical disputes and religious doctrines, encouraging more philanthropic activities. This is a period where societies will find themselves re-evaluating existing beliefs, legal matters, and management policies. Faith in government, education, experts and law is questioned. An opposition between Mercury in Scorpio and Jupiter in Taurus may cause legal issues or expose underhand dealings concerning finance and investments.

November 2011

The last of the four solar eclipses of 2011 will occur on 25th November, 2011, in the Fire sign of Sagittarius and will be seen in southern regions of Africa and Australia. The sun also squares Mars and Neptune during the eclipse which gives a certain passive aggressive - aggressive tone to the period. November promises to be quite and active month with Mercury turning retrograde on November 24th at 20 degrees Sagittarius suggesting the progress and communication and international diplomacy may be hampered by dogmatic philosophies, particularly with Jupiter also being retrograde at this time. Neptune on the other hand goes direct on November 9th in Aquarius encouraging dreams of social change based on humanitarian ideals.

December 2011

Mercury turns direct in December 14th at 3 Sagittarius improving communication at all levels but particularly the far reaching communication between foreign governments. The Saturn - Jupiter opposition in Taurus and Libra highlights conflicting opinions as to what we truly value. Issues of judgment and duty may come to the fore at this time as we seek to free ourselves of responsibility so as to develop our potential. Restructuring of financial systems or legal inquiries into financial corruption or mismanagement may take a more prominent role.
